DAC Parent/Child Clay Workshops-Lanterns!

Parent/Child workshops are a great way to get creative with your child. Each workshop will allow your child, with your assistance, to create their very own ceramic artwork. Take one, or take them all! Because the projects need to be fired, artwork will be available for pick up about two weeks after the workshop. All workshops are for ages 2-14 except Thrown from the Wheel, you must be at least 5 years old.  All workshops will take place at the Durham Arts Council Clay Studio Located at Northgate Mall.  Prices Vary and are noted next to each workshop.


Light up your life using slabs to create your own lantern out of clay then decorate it with color.

kidcycle-shopping-map-2015The Kidcycle Gallery of Shops is located inside the mall in Children’s Alleyway near Stadium 10 Theaters. Kidcycle invites area families to consign their gently used children’s apparel, shoes, maternity wear, baby equipment, toys and books, from new born to teenage, to sell at Kidcycle’s public sales events.

Consigners should register items online at www.kidcyclenc.com with item drop-off scheduled for Friday and Saturday, February 27 – 28, 2015.

1pm: Morehead Planetarium: Science Saturday Programming

2pm: Dr. Seuss Story Time: Durham County librarians will dress as Dr. Seuss and serve up “Green Eggs and Ham” with songs, stories, games, and a craft

3pm: Akapoma African Dance: African music and dance performance (Northgate Center Court)

1pm-4pm Showcase of community agencies featuring information, demonstrations and giveaways

Participants receive a free book provided by Reading is Fundamental.


The Nook is located in Children’s Alleyway and features kid-centered educational reading events on a monthly basis.

Partnering with Durham County Library to bring a dedicated kid-friendly, educational zone to the mall. The Nook offers stories, drama, local authors and fun with STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math)

DAC- Top it Off – 2 Day Workshop

March 21, 2015 4:00 pm

Participants will learn techniques for designing and constructing lids for wheel thrown forms and using some altering methods with slab and coil. Throughout the workshop demonstrations will include jars, bottomless thrown forms, globes, and possibly boxes. We will focus on good measuring techniques, trimming, and knobs.

image006The American Heart Association, Northgate and Durham Diabetes Coalition are partnering to host the American Heart Association’s National Walking Day activities in Durham to raise awareness of the importance of physical activity.

Join friends, family, co-workers and get started on a healthier way of life!

Interested walkers should pre-register online or at Customer Service.

Morning walk session: 7:30am-10am with a special kick off program at 10am followed by free Zumba in Center Court.
