All workshops are for ages 2-14 except Thrown from the Wheel, you must be at least 5 years old.  All workshops will take place at the Durham Arts Council Clay Studio Located at Northgate Mall.  Prices Vary and are noted next to each workshop.

Thrown from the Wheel!

Even young ones can throw from the wheel. Our instructor will get your wheel piece started, and you and your child will complete it! Each piece will be dipped in clear glaze and fired!

Pinewood Derby

February 7, 2015 10:00 am
February 7, 2015 3:00 pm

Watch as Cub Scouts race their handmade cars to the finish line in Center Court

Durham District (Mawat) of the Boy Scouts of America will be holding its annual Cub Scout

Pinewood Derby

Saturday, February 7, 2014 from 10:00am to 3:00pm.

Each car is designed and crafted by Cub Scouts to meet the specifications of the Pinewood Derby.

Find out who designed

  •  The Fastest Car
  • Most Beautiful Car
  • Most Original Car

Each participating Scout is given a block of wood made of pine with two notches for wheels, four plastic wheels and four nails. The finished car must use all nine pieces, and cannot exceed five ounces on weight, 7 inches of length and 2 3/4 inches wide. Other than the previous basic design rules, the Cub Scout is able to design and carve the car as he chooses. Many Cub Scouts also add weights to the final design to bring the car to the maximum allowable weight. Cars progress from unfinished blocks to accurate replicas of actual cars and even whimsical objects.
