Friday, September 26: Charlley Ward and Jimi King Trio featuring John Dee Holeman

Blues guitarist Charlley Ward is former founder of the Piedmont Playboys with Mel Melton and disciple of Durham’s king of the blues. Jimi King performs danceable swinging Texas-style blues, interweaving the sounds and styles of many of the great blues giants.  All this plus Durham acoustic blues legend John Dee Holeman, recipient of the NEA’s National Heritage Fellowship, appears on stage at one time!

Friday, October 3: Al Strong with The Art of Cool Project and ZoocrüAOCP_logo_WEB

Trumpeter, arranger, and composer Strong and his quintet perform jazz with mixtures of rock, R&B, and world music.  Strong has recorded with Aretha Franklin, Clay Aiken, The Beast, Old Ceremony, comedian SinBad and is a founder of jazz advocacy organization,The Art of Cool Project.

The Durham Symphony Orchestra opening performance of their 2014-2015 season promises family fun extending all evening with special guest performances by the extraordinary Paperhand Puppet Intervention, hands-on instrument fun with High Strung Petting Zoo and Durham’s Faith Baptist Church Children’s Choir.

College Fair 22x28Meet with representatives of 100 colleges and universities!

Annual Durham College Fair on Sunday, October 5 from 1:00pm-3:00pm.

Hosted and organized by Durham Public Schools and Duke University , the event provides families an opportunity to gather information about dozens of two-and four-year college programs, large or small schools, urban or rural, majors, activities and costs, student life and financial assistance.

Two and four-year private and public schools will be available from across the state as far away as Alabama, Virginia and Massachusetts.

Durham Public School high school counselors will also be on hand to help students navigate through the large number of participating institutions.

The Durham College Fair is free and open to the public and is accessible from entrance #2, #4 and #8 at Northgate Mall, 1058 West Club Boulevard, Durham.

Even young ones can throw from the wheel. Our instructor will get your wheel piece started, and you and your child will complete it! Each piece will be dipped in clear glaze and fired!

Parent/Child Clay Workshops are a great way to get creative with your child. Each workshop will allow your child, with your assistance, to create their very own ceramic artwork. Take one, or take them all! Because the projects need to be fired, artwork will be available for pick up about two weeks after the workshop. These classes take place at the DAC Clay Studio located at Northgate Mall.

Relay focuses on local foods and has established partnerships with a number of Triangle-based vendors including Slingshot Coffee, Maple View Farm, Nello’s Sauce, Latta’s Egg Ranch, Vintage Bee Honey, and Tempeh Girl.

It’s all about SCIENCE at the October Discovery Nook.

October Discovery Nook features several science-themed exploration stations on the Science of Light & Color. Science experiments led by Library Youth Partners and feature hands-on experiments featuring tye-dye, bubbles & light, and mixing and creating colors.Participants receive a free book provided by Reading is Fundamental.

The Nook, located in Children’s Alleyway, features kid-centered educational reading events on a monthly basis.

Partnering with Durham County Library, we are excited to bring this dedicated kid-friendly, educational zone to the mall. The Nook offers stories, drama, local authors and fun with STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math)
