Snow Removal Plans – Effective January 2018

Inclement Weather Policy

In an effort to improve conditions, Northgate’s plan for snow removal changed effective immediately. Focus will now be placed on areas of property that will yield the most cover and the least hazardous routes.

Entrances and thoroughfares most frequently used by tenants and patrons entering and exiting will be given higher priority. Clearing more concentrated areas adjacent to covered parking decks (where available) will allow ample safe, covered parking. Areas that tend to be more hazardous for longer periods of time will be barricaded and not cleared; these include the lot behind the mall, the service road which parallels I-85 and the area behind The Shops at Northgate.

Please review the map below which identifies areas that will be barricaded and those that will be plowed. Determine the deck/lot nearest an entrance that will allow you the easiest, safest way to enter and exit your place of business or destination.

Please share this memorandum and snow removal map with your staff.

Your continued cooperation is appreciated

Happy New Year

Posted on January 2, 2018 by

Welcome 2018!

As we begin the new year and all the excitement that comes with starting a new year and making changes, we thought we would share a little bit of Northgate history. The following interview was printed in the Northgate Park Neighborhood Association Newsletter.

A chat with Ginny, local owner at Northgate

What made your family decided to build Northgate Mall?

“My father bought the land, once a tobacco farm, for a soda bottling facility. When rezoning couldn’t be gained for this, Willie York (Cameron Village developer) approached him about a shopping center. They partnered for a CV-like center with similar vendors”

(Kerr Drug, Thalhimer’s, Huggins H/W, Wills Books – for those that may remember!

How many jobs are in/connected to the Mall?

“From 100-2500 local jobs dependig on tenants, city partnerships etc, at any time.”

How many customers do you serve?

“We estimate at 5 million per year! – an that’s not including the Bank of America or the outer Shops @ Northgate.”

How many community events & partnerships does the Mall host over a year?

“At least three community events or more per month! Plus, what our tenants do on their own. Just a few examples: Many book sales @ Friends of Durham Library shop, events in the MakerLab & NC Special Collection spaces; Dress for Success holds 3 or more events a year and Kidcycle/NC Diaper Bank hosts two charity pop-up sales events here per year too!”

What do your enjoy the most about your enterprise and your role each day?

“Every day’s different. It’s a constant challenge to stay on top of things happening in & around the busy shopping complex – it’s like running a small town!”

What excited you most about the future of Northgate Mall?

“The ability to change with the Durham market-place. As downtown, 9th/Broad Street & North Durham change, development is moving back this way. It’s our goal to transition to a more mixed-use complex, allocating space to different uses alongside retail. Many don’t realize that Northgate has been home to 70,000 SF office space since 1993! We added an additional 23,754 SF with Measurement, Inc’s new Scoring Center last January. We’ll continue a focus on leasing space to office and entertainment, dining & services uses”
